At St. Gabriel’s students develop detailed knowledge and skills across the curriculum and, as a result, achieve well. They are readied for the next stage of education, employment or training both through their lessons and in-house CEAIG. Where relevant, they gain qualifications that allow them to go on to destinations that meet their interests, aspirations and the intention of their course of study. Careers information is embedded and woven into our curriculum throughout.
In Year 7 pupils are introduced to the concept of careers. Pupils are provided with information on careers pathways through our personal development lessons and assemblies.
In Year 8 pupils build on their experiences in year 7and start to have encounters with different companies and organisation through careers cafes and workshops.
In year 9 in order to support pupils options choices, pupils have a dedicated careers day, and careers lessons in personal development time. Additionally, they have a ‘future’ pathways evening and careers links are included in subject time. Furthermore, they have encounters with companies and organisations through careers cafes and careers week.
In year 10, pupils have arranged one to one meetings with a careers advisor. Pupils have a dedicated careers time in the calendar and are provided with up to date information on the labour market. They get opportunities to work with numerous external agencies and companies and aspects of further education such as University living are introduced. Apprenticeships that follow on from secondary education are also brought to their attention and school ensures the ‘Baker clause’ is adhered to.
In year 11, pupils are further encouraged to link their GCSE to careers. Pupils are provided with one to one support with a careers advisor. Pupils are provided with CV and college and apprenticeship application support. Pupils attend assemblies with FE providers in Bury and other independent training providers. We measure our impact through destination data and feedback from various stakeholders.
